Farewell Africa

Very little seen during the morning whilst sorting the car out at the Sunbird Mountain Retreat, but 1 African Paradise Flycatcher and an African Dusky Flycatcher seen a couple of times.

A very brief stop at the Zandvei Estuary on the way to the airport showed several Avocet and a few Greater Flamingos of any note.

Birding around Cape Town

A few birds around the garden of the Sunbird Mountain Lodge first thing whilst having breakfast, including African Dusky Flycatcher, Cape Robin-chat, Lesser Double-collared Sunbird, Cape Batis and a Cape White-eye. Nearby, several Hartlaub’s and Kelp Gulls at Haut Bay and Red-winged Starling in Cape Town itself.

South Africa adventure starts here

Several Pied Crows flying around near the airport along with a Cape Wagtail. Many Sacred Ibis and Cattle Egrets flying over the N3 into Cape Town at dusk along with several Hadeda Ibis on streetlights and Black-winged Stilt and Red-knobbed Coots on roadside pools. A small party of Helmeted Guineafowl by the road near Sunbird Mountain Retreat and an African Wood Owl calling here in the darkness later on.
